Dayton, February 6, 2020:  Wright Brothers Institute (WBI) is pleased to announce the 10 small businesses selected  for the second T3 Transition Accelerator. The participants were selected from a pool of 63 applicants that responded to an internationally advertised opportunity ; eight U.S. states are represented. The selected companies have committed to 10 weeks of intensive training to prepare their products and themselves for success in both military and commercial markets. Only two of the 10 companies, all of which are classified as small businesses (500 employees or fewer), have previously received Air Force SIBR funding. The T3 Transition Accelerator will provide them with business acumen that will position them for success in any market and unravel the often unfamiliar rules and regulations associated with Air Force acquisition . The selected companies have products or technologies that align  in partnering with the Air Force’s goal of developing materials and manufacturing processes focused on low cost, reusable and minimal maintenance (attritable) structures, engines and sensors in autonomous unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and space force.

The T3 Transition Accelerator is hosted by WBI, in partnership with the Air Force Small Business Innovative Research Program Office (AF SBIR/STTR), the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), and The Entrepreneurs Center (TEC) of Dayton. The application and selection processes were themselves  innovative, with support from AFRL’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate and the Air Force SBIR/STTR Program Office, which encouraged reaching beyond Air Force business norms to find companies that will accelerate existing research, solutions, and technology transition with non-traditional partners. The companies applied via the F6S.com platform, a free and open site for company founders that provides information on investors, accelerators and incubators, among other services. 

Representatives from each company will come to WBI’s 444 building in downtown Dayton for the March 2 orientation and will be in Dayton for six weeks of the 10-week program. The T3 Transition Accelerator culminates in a daylong Demo Day at downtown Dayton’s Steam Plant venue, where the companies will pitch their technologies to the Air Force and other interested parties.
